Stimulus Discussion and Final Group Decision

Our stimulus group discussion on which stimulus to choose was very constructive due to the fact that we all listened to one another and gave our opinions on each piece. My stimulus was based off the image below on the war between Russia and Ukraine. I was drawn to this stimulus because I live with Ukrainian guests, therefore, this war has not only impacted my life but also, I could have first-hand resources about how they felt during this time. (Previous discussions had occurred to ask if it would be okay and appropriate to talk to our guests about this) An idea that I had for this performance was to use negative space to show the taking over Ukraine with the idea of certain movements showing more strength and dynamics than others. Shown below is the image that I was drawn to, relating to the theme of Russia and Ukraine.

We came to the decision on which stimulus to choose by creating a google form in which we could all vote anonymously for which stimulus we each preferred. I was conflicted between the Iranian protest and COVID-19 because our group had discussed interesting structure/ choreographic devis for each. In the end I did vote for COVID-19 as our choreography stimulus because I liked how we could make it personal to ourselves and almost show our perspective on lockdown and how it changed our lives.

COVID-19 was voted for the most out of all the options, moving forward we created a short phrase which involved several motifs relating back to the stimulus. The feeling we that we wanted to portray to the audience was that everyone’s experience during COVID-19 was different.
