Inspiration and feedback

Our inspiration for one of our collaborative movements was researched on Instagram by Anita, another member of the group. In the video, the dancers gracefully collapsed onto one another. Their movements in doing so were subtle and controlled. It began with the first person lying down which then created a ripple effect in which the rest of the dancers became more grounded and piled gently on top of this person. This influenced us into applying this same method to our piece and using it to help convey our message to the audience. With our reinterpretation, Max is the first person to fall to the ground, and then in height order, we use the same ripple effect to gracefully collapse over him. We then portray a sequence of arm movements followed by a canon, similar to the video, to stand. We used this to show the physical struggle of the effects of the virus and that you can feel very fatigued and exhausted and you would need someone to help you stand.

Shown below is the feedback we were given from our choreography teacher after watching the choreography piece. Some points that we focused on in detail were:

>More physicality to show infection in certain people

> Develop the vaccination ripple arm

After receiving this feedback we decided to add more contractions in the body of the people who are infected from the very beginning. We also developed this into being more grounded and using the lower levels to intensify the image of struggle from the effects of the virus. From the video, it is clearer to see the intent of the message we are trying to portray.

To improve the vaccination ripple arm we decided to take advantage of the fact that our teacher thought that this was one of the stronger moments within the piece. Moving forward, we developed it further by repeating the ripple by using more levels the third and fourth time we repeated it. We achieved this by taking the first person's arm higher and lower each time.

I think the adaptations from receiving feedback made the intention of the movement more successful which helped convey the message further. My group discussed all the points that were discussed from our feedback and we thought what our teacher had mentioned was very helpful because we hadn't had an outside perspective of how the piece looked. We were pleased to hear that we had some strong sections throughout the choreography from the use of motifs or dynamics to reinterpret the narrative to the audience.
